lants of culture can’t grow themselves. They need productive soil of people’s recognition, sun energy of demand and a skillful gardener that would watch over them and protect from shifts and changes of life. For many years the title of the keeper of best traditions and creative legacy of the Russian Academy of Arts belongs to its vice president Natalia Kuzmina.
A bright and fabulously charismatic woman, she is filled with creative energy that allows her to make optimal decisions and embody them. She is a true worker and her sense of purpose is one of her greatest virtues since childhood. Being a schoolgirl she was already noted for her theoretical mind, knowledge and eagerness to learn. Together with a few other pupils she was offered to study at the Novosibirsk Science Campus. Then there were the Ashgabat State University and the Plekhanov Russian Economic Academy. At the Moscow State University she defended her doctor’s thesis. Today she is Pro-rector of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations. Thanks to her efforts the conference hall of the institute became a meeting place for students, professors and outstanding people of art.
Preparation of big events drew out all organizational talents of Natalia. Due to her activities a forum called Culture Dominant in Modern World — Artist’s Responsibility for Future of Russia opened in the Bolshoi Theatre and gathered famous people from creative communities, Russian and Moscow government representatives and notable politicians. The Tchaikovsky Concert Hall saw a gala concert Constellation featuring the Russian Academy of Arts members: Nikolai Petrov, Vladimir Vaslilyev, Ekaterina Maximova, Fazil Iskander, Igor Moiseev, and Svyatoslav Belza. In 2004 Natalia Kuzmina became one of originators and organizers of Grand Pas, a festival dedicated to ballet held on stages at the Bolshoi and Maly theatres. At the same time the Knave of Diamonds — Russian Art of the Avant Garde exhibition was open at the State Russian Museum and later at the State Tretyakov Gallery.
She is also responsible for the Dram-Entre youth organization at the Art Center, which produced experimental spectacles, musicals and poetry evenings. The Art Center concert hall also became known for such memorable classical music events as Young Russian Talents, Piano Art and Vocal Evenings. And fans of jazz still remember monthly jazz concerts. More thanks to Kuzmina and the Moscow State Philharmonic Orchestra.
In 2006 by passionate work of Natalia Kuzmina the Academy of Arts Exhibition Hall was built and fully equipped. Modern Russian artists take part in monthly exhibitions. Thousands of Muscovites and metropolitan visitors come to see their paintings. The Russian Academy of Arts Exhibition Hall quickly gained popularity among Russian artists and art lovers and the city got another cultural center.
The Exhibition Hall became a significant place of enlightenment and education. Twice a week leading specialists from the State Tretyakov Gallery, State Museum of Decorative Art, Lomonosov Museum of Modern Art read lectures about the history of art for young people.
Natalia always takes part in organization and realization of various international projects such as La France en Russie and La Russie en France. She is also responsible for preparation of Year of Russian Culture and Language in Italy and Year of Italian Culture and Language in Russia.
Natalia’s professional merits are striking. A person, who selflessly wants to do something for native culture can be of little help. It’s important to be an enterprising worker and to be able to feel and do the most important things supporting people of art and trying to revive interest in society. Natalia possesses all these qualities.
Her life is a bright example for those who consider themselves selfless servants of art. The history will undoubtedly appreciate her substantial contribution to modern Russian culture development, it’s already obvious that due to Natalia Kuzmina the Russian Academy of Arts has became the biggest and the most authoritative non-governmental union of outstanding musicians, painters, writers, actors, film and theater directors, operatic artists and ballet dancers.
